The traditional “Eight Mother Palms” (Ba Gua Zhang) passed down through the Eight Trigrams Boxing (Ba Gua Quan) lineage of Dong Haichuan-Yin Fu-Gong Baotian-Gong Baozhai are a framework for investigation and study of the complete physical body and psycho-spiritual-energetic system. Characteristic of the rigor of ancient times, each animal assignment, palm name and trigram was carefully selected for their functional significance. The top four techniques in the chart constitute “inner palms” in contrast with the bottom four that constitute “outer palms.” An important discovery by the ancient masters of the Eight Trigrams Boxing system was that the inner organs are physiologically paired with the outer body regions in the order of Heart-Head, Lung-Back, etc. Within this framework inner fulfillment and outer effectiveness are simultaneously cultivated and blended.
